The International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry (ISMSC) is the most prestigious international conference in the area of supramolecular science. The history of ISMSC can be traced back to two originally independent symposia, the International Symposium on Macrocyclic Chemistry (ISMC) and the International Symposium on Supramolecular Chemistry (ISSC). The ISMC series was founded by Professors Reed M Izatt and James J Christensen and began in 1977, in Provo, Utah, USA. Three years later, the first ISSC was held in Warsaw, Poland. With the increasing overlap of research topics in macrocyclic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry, in 2006 ISMC and ISSC were merged and the first joint conference was held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The success of this merger served to launch the ISMSC as the premier conference in the field. The ISMSC has been held annually ever since with a hiatus for the pandemic. It moves from one nation to another. The previous meeting was held in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2023.

At the 16^th ISMSC held in Oregon, USA in 2022, the Stoddart Institute of Molecular Science (SIMS) of the ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center made a successful bid to host the ISMSC 2024 in Hangzhou, China. This represents the second time that ISMSC has come to China. The first time was on the occasion of the 9th ISMSC held in Shanghai in 2014.

The ISMSC 2024 will be held from May 6 to 10, 2024 at the Blossom Water Museum Hotel Hangzhou (Address: No.118, Shuibo Road, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China). Hangzhou, the Capital of Zhejiang Province, is one of China’s most enduringly popular holiday spots. Hangzhou is most famous for its West Lake panoramas, whose scenic vistas draw you into a classical Chinese watercolor vista of willow-lined banks, mist-covered hills, and multiple ancient Buddhist temples that were built over 1000 years ago. More than 1,000 international and domestic researchers, students, and industry representatives in the field of macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry will attend the conference, including two Nobel Prize Laureates, one Wolf Prize winner, and over 20 academicians from China and overseas. 

Time: May 6-10, 2024, on-site registration is open on May 5. 2024.

News on Visa-Free Entry Trial Policy:

（1）The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on March 7th, 2024: In order to further promote personnel exchanges between China and foreign countries, China has decided to expand the scope of visa-free countries and try out a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from six countries: Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg. From March 14 to November 30, 2024, holders of ordinary passports from the above-mentioned countries can enter China visa-free for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends and transiting through the border for no more than 15 days. Those who do not meet the visa exemption conditions from the above-mentioned countries still need to apply for a visa to China before entering the country.

（2）The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on January 25th, 2024: Representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Singapore signed the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on the Reciprocal Exemption of Visas for Holders of Ordinary Passports. The agreement will enter into force on February 9, 2024. At that time, holders of ordinary passports from both sides can enter each other's countries without a visa and stay for no more than 30 days. If you intend to stay in the other country for more than 30 days, you must obtain a visa before entering the other country.

Notice on Visa-Free Entry Trial Policy for 6 Countries：To further facilitate cross-border travel and China’s high-quality development and high-standard opening up, China has decided to apply unilateral visa-free policy to more countries on a trial basis, which involves extending visa-free treatment to travelers holding ordinary passports from six countries, namely France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia. From December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024, citizens from the above-mentioned countries holding ordinary passports can be exempted from visa to enter China and stay for no more than 15 days for business, tourism, family visit and transit purposes.
